In this exhibition in knit and glass, artist Niela Kalra interprets the landmark court case arising out of the the Hoswick Whale Caa, 1888.

Shetland crofters successfully defended an action by their powerful landlords in a remarkable tale reminiscent of David vs Goliath. In this installation which is located within an old crofthouse in Hoswick, Niela explores themes of equity through the lens of her previous experience as a lawyer. Captivated by the tenacity and resilience of the Shetland community, through her artwork she reflects on the impact of their actions and celebrates their fortitude. Niela uses glass processes including casting, printing and powderwork. She uses images both in knit and glass to identify with the spirit of these brave people in their struggle for justice.
