A dynamic textiles printing workshop, where you will design and hand print your very own contemporary Fair Isle repeating pattern. The workshop is led by Royal College of Art master printmakers Amy Gear and Daniel Clark. Learn how to screen print your design in beautiful ombre fades on textiles using their range of specially-mixed ‘Shetland’ pigments. The workshop takes place at the artist’s studio, a stunning 125 year old former Chapel on Burra Isle. Take inspiration from studio walls adorned with archival imagery, the studio’s print collection and Gear’s family Fair Isle knitwear collection. You will create a unique design on heavyweight cotton bags, tea towels, and swatches which you will be able to take home after the session.
Skill level: Absolutely no prior experience of printmaking is required!
Transport: The workshop is in Bridge End, Burra Isle, just south of Scalloway. Buses from Lerwick to Bridge End take 45 minutes, dropping you right outside the studio. You first get a bus to Scalloway (blydoit), then a feeder bus to Burra. Ask the driver to let you off by the Toogs Junction – and you will see our studio (an old chapel). Our workshop times correspond with the bus timetable. We also have plenty of parking at our studio.
