Shetland dialect is a unique blend of its ancestor languages Scots and the now extinct Scandinavian Norn, which was once spoken by the Viking settlers, as well as centuries of intense trade contacts and multilingualism on the islands. This lunchtime talk will focus specifically on the Shetland dialect knitting terms and expressions, many of which are still directly traceable to Scandinavian.
