The top of Fair Isle hats can be decreased in several ways, which can create very effective decorative patterns on the crown. During class we shall look at some of the different decreases often used in hat shaping and you will have a chance to design part of a crown and knit a small swatch. We will also look at examples of hat crown in class and will have a look at the hats on display in the museum.
Materials: Yarn will be provided. Please bring a set of double pointed needles, size 3.0mm / 3.25mm or 3.5mm or circular needles to knit a small sample.
Skills required: Participants should be able to knit stocking stitch and have basic experience of Fair Isle techniques.
