Shetland lace is one of the most exquisite, complex forms of knit in the world. Shetland Museum holds a large collection of about 400 pieces of this amazing craft.

Curator Carol Christiansen has been researching Shetland’s knitted lace since 2009 and is currently working on three projects with a focus on lace. She will present a brief history of lace knitting in Shetland, explain differences in quality and design using examples from the Museum’s collection, and discuss the current projects and how they are helping us to understand how the craft of fine lace knitting developed and continues to influence knit design.
