Classes

In association with Shetland Wool Week, twenty-four young Shetland bairns between the ages of seven and 11 from all over the isles took part in the bairns knitting classes, which began in January. The aim was to preserve Shetland’s rich heritage in knitting and textiles, whilst the bairns had fun too!

The students learned the basic skills of knitting, including learning to cast on, cast off, knit, purl and some even started their very own Fair Isle. Extra classes are currently running for bairn’s until 29 March, with beginners joining the bairns who have already taken part in classes.

More classes will be available soon, including adult beginners knitting classes, which will be available to book via the Shetland Box Office.
