We are delighted to announce that we will be holding a Shetland Wool Holiday from 3rd-9th March (6 nights) 2016.
We would love for you to join us on a journey through Shetland and discover our unique textile heritage. Our packaged holidays are designed to give an insight into Shetland’s textile traditions, industry and local crofting community as well as to explore our beautiful islands. These trips provide local knowledge and history as well as excellent learning opportunities in knitting and spinning from local expert tutors.

Thursday 3rd March
Day 1 – Lerwick
Meet at Alder Lodge Guest House to check-in and leave luggage
Textile Treasures Tour at Shetland Museum and Archives
Wool Grading Tour at Jamieson & Smith Shetland Wool Brokers Ltd.
Moodboard workshop with Joanna Hunter (A textile designer and owner of Ninian Shetland)
Friday 4th March
Day 2 – Sumburgh
Drive to Sumburgh via scenic spots including the world famous St Ninian’s Isle which is a small island connected by the largest active sand tombolo in the UK.
Full day colour and lace workshop at Sumburgh Head Lighthouse, Visitor Centre and Nature Reserve
Saturday 5th March
Day 3 – Lerwick
‘Authenticity in Culturally-Based Knitting’ study day with guest speakers at Shetland Museum and Archives (knitting during talks is actively encouraged!)
Fair Isle workshop
Sunday 6th March
Day 4 – Hoswick
Full day wool dyeing workshop
Monday 7th March
Day 5 – Whalsay or Unst
Day trip to Whalsay or Unst/Yell – meet local knitters and visit local heritage centres
Tuesday 8th March
Day 6 – Westside – yarn and sheep
Visit to Jamieson’s of Shetland Mill
Visit a croft to see native livestock
Scalloway Museum with local specialist knitters
Wednesday 9th March
Day 7 – Departure
Breakfast & check-out
Free day to explore Lerwick and shop
Please note that some elements may be subject to change. A detailed finalised itinerary will be provided to all participants in January.
Spaces are very limited on this holiday so if you would like to make a reservation please contact Shona Fullerton on 01595 694688 or firstname.lastname@example.org. We require 50% (£725) to confirm a booking and the remaining 50% will be due 28 days prior to arriving in Shetland.
The price includes single occupancy of a room. For any holiday participants that wish to share a room, the total cost will be £1350 – a saving of £100 per person.
Anyone wishing to share a room with a non-holiday participant will be required to pay an extra £200 for the 6-night duration.
Please also note that the itinerary starts early on Thursday 3rd March so we advise you arrive in Shetland no later than 2nd but it is your responsibility to find accommodation for that night.
