Want to give your hands a break from practical classes? Why not take some time to experience the many wonders of the Shetland landscapes and learn more about our Crofting lifestyles and our rich textile heritage.

If you want to meet some of the sheep who produce the wonderful wool we produce on Shetland we have a few options for you:

 Lunna History and Heritage Tour

Sunday 25th September, 1000 – 1200 and 1300 – 1500, Ticket Price: £30.00, Departs from Vidlin Public Hall, Vidlin

Take a bus tour to Lunna Farm and meet native Shetland sheep, cattle and ponies, alongside learning more about the history of this beautiful area of the island including the Shetland Bus.

 Shetland Rural Experience

Wednesday 28th September, Thursday 29th September, 1100 – 1315, Ticket Price: £90.00, Pick Up from Shetland Museum and Archives Car Park, Hays Dock Lerwick

Take a tour to Girlsta where you can meet some Shetland sheep and learn more about the process of training the collie dogs who help to herd them around the islands. There will also be a Shetland pony to meet before being taken for lunch.

An Introduction to Organic Native Shetland Sheep and Wool Production

Let Ronnie introduce you to his native Shetland sheep and tell you about the process of taking fleece and creating the organic Uradale Yarns.

Sheep & Crofting Talk with Brewery Tour

Monday 26th September and Tuesday 27th September, 1030 – 1430, Ticket Price: £50.00, Lerwick Brewery, Ladies Drive, Lerwick

For something a little different, spend a lunch time at Lerwick Brewery being introduced to both Shetland and Shetland Cross sheep before having lunch and taking a tour of the Brewery.

 Croft Tour and Workshop Gallery Visit

Visit the Tait family croft in Bigton and meet their flock of sheep before taking a tour of the crofthouse where Paparwark Furniture’s workshop is based.

Take a tour with our Visitor Services Assisitants around our nationally recognised collection of Textiles.

 Tour to Whalsay

Spend the afternoon sightseeing and seeing the various local knitwear items in the Symbister Hall. Enjoy getting to chat and knit with some of the locals
